Exploring Mindset

Back in the 80’s growing up, I wasn’t the typical girl. I loved playing with my Barbie dolls, but I loved, loved playing with my brother and his toys - Transformers and G.I. Joe’s. Haha. I can even remember watching those cartoons on Saturday mornings, without a care in the world. A quote I remember from GI Joe, “knowing is half the battle.” Whew! The more I live, the more that childhood quote rings true.

Actually, I believe it’s more than half the battle. Success is won in what we believe, about what we know. Ask anyone, why does such and such process work. You’ll get a million different variations on the answer. Why? Because we’re all filtering our knowledge through our perspective, our lens, our lived experiences. This is where our brain develops conscious and unconscious bias. In the show notes, you’ll find a cool way to begin exploring your conscious bias and increasing your awareness with the - Harvard Implicit Association Test I always tell my clients, “You can’t change something you’re not aware of.” So, in the Harvard Implicit Bias Test, there’s a variety of tests to explore topics from race to gender to politics, religion, and even weight and body image.

I’m sure you’ve heard of “Junk in=junk out.” Well, my sweet friend, you can’t expect to have successful outcomes if you’re not putting in the right work with consistency.

While GI Joe says that knowing is half the battle. Mindset goes deeper than just knowing. It’s believing, understanding, and a rewiring of sorts. Transferring knowledge from knowing to believing, then to taking action and doing.

Our behaviors are deeply influenced by what we feel, think, believe. - what we believe about our thoughts, and what we do - how we show up in the world. We are created to be rational beings. And this rationalization of our world and our experiences has the power to shift our reality to the positive or the negative. In a future episode, we’ll explore this topic deeper, but for now, let’s just dive into shifting our mindset so we can create healthy habits and make healthy choices. 

So how does mindset show up in our relationships and in our everyday lives? 

What’s so wild, is that it can take a lifetime to develop unhealthy habits. So don’t be surprised when those deep rooted, neural pathways - our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions are hard to not only notice, but to also change. While you can’t turn a huge ship on a dime, your choices today will create a ripple effect in how you move and show up in relationships and your world. 

Don’t be discouraged my sweet friend if you’re struggling with low motivation, there’s hope, if you dare to be different. If you dare to be different in your relationships, in business, in reaching your goals. Through the simple beauty of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis, there’s hope for change, but only if you dare to shift your mindset. With neuroplasticity, our brain rewires itself by forming new connections and creating new neural pathways and neurogenesis is very similar, it’s brain’s ability to grow new neurons.

10 Mindset Strategies

We all have those days where it feels like everything is stacked up against us. But what if I told you that your mindset could be your secret weapon to turning things around? The power of a positive and proactive mindset is often underestimated.

After nearly a decade of working in the mental health and wellness field, and after helping over a thousand people find their inner strength and tap into successful reaching their wellness goals, I’m excited to share some tips with you. 

I have compiled 10 mindset strategies that I’ve gleaned along the way from helping clients to boost their confidence, creativity, focus, concentration, and motivation.

  1. Cultivate Positivity with Positive Self-Talk
    • Engage in positive self-talk and positive affirmations every day.
    • Replace negative thoughts with empowering affirmations to shift your mindset.

  2. Visualize Success
    • Create vivid mental images of success and desired outcomes.
    • Spend a few minutes each day visualizing your goals and steps to achieve them.



  3. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
    • Practice being mindful and present-focused to increase awareness and improve focus.
    • Incorporate mindfulness or meditation practices into your daily routine.




  4. Set Goals and Clear Intentions
    • Be intentional and set clear expectations and goals for your day.
    • Use the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) to set and track progress.


  5. Develop a Growth Mindset
    • Believe that your abilities and intelligence can be developed with effort, learning, and consistency.
    • View challenges as opportunities to grow and learn.


  6. Practice Self-Compassion
    • Be kind to yourself, even when things don’t go as planned.
    • Treat yourself with the same compassion and understanding you would offer to a friend.


  7. Engage in Regular Exercise
    • Physical activity boosts mental and physical health.
    • Develop a weekly routine with a variety of activities like walking, yoga, or strength training.



  8. Establish Healthy Sleep Habits
    • Prioritize your sleep and establish a regular sleep schedule.
    • Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night and create a restful sleep environment.


  9. Become a Lifelong Learner
    • Engage in activities that stimulate your mind, such as reading, taking courses, or learning new skills.
    • Commit to lifelong learning and skill development.


  10. Practice Gratitude
    • Focus on and appreciate the positive aspects of life.
    • Keep a gratitude journal and reflect on positive experiences daily.


I hope that these ten powerful strategies will help you tap into your greatness and learn now ways to harness your mindset as your superpower, so you can not only win today, but win every day, even on the hard and tough days.
