Invest in Yourself & Thrive Through Menopause - Mind & Body Connection with Dr. Christine Boev

Empower your midlife journey. Learn how mindset, nutrition & self-care help you thrive through menopause with Dr. Christine Boev.

Menopause is a natural part of life, but for many women, it can feel confusing, frustrating, and isolating. The mood swings, weight changes, hot flashes, and lack of energy can make you feel like a stranger in your own body. But what if this season could be a turning point—a time to reconnect with your body, reset your habits, and reclaim your power?

In a recent episode of The Daring Well Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Christine Boev—scientist, health provider, and wellness expert—about how to take control of your health and well-being during menopause. Her message is simple and strong: when you invest in yourself, everyone benefits.

Understanding What’s Really Happening During Menopause

Perimenopause can begin as early as your mid-30s, and yet many of us aren’t aware of what’s happening or why. Dr. Christine explained that fluctuating and declining hormones—especially estrogen and progesterone—are at the root of common symptoms such as:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Mood changes and anxiety
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Low energy and loss of motivation
  • Weight gain, especially around the midsection

These changes aren’t just “in your head.” They’re biological—and understanding them is the first step toward managing them.

Hormone Replacement Therapy: Breaking the Stigma

For years, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was misunderstood and even feared. Dr. Christine helps clarify the facts, noting that outdated studies created unnecessary fear. Today’s bioidentical hormone therapies are much safer and more effective, especially when used under proper medical guidance.

“It’s not about fixing something broken,” she shares, “it’s about restoring what your body is no longer producing so you can feel like yourself again.”

If you’re struggling with symptoms, it’s important to advocate for yourself and have open conversations with your provider about all your options—including HRT.

Dr. Christine’s 3-Part Roadmap to Thriving

When it comes to thriving in menopause, Dr. Christine offers a clear and sustainable roadmap:

1. Nutrition Is Foundational

Most women don’t realize how much food impacts hormonal balance. Dr. Christine encourages women to:

  • Eat whole, nutrient-dense foods
  • Increase protein intake
  • Limit ultra-processed foods and harmful oils
  • Follow a 90/10 rule: 90% clean, 10% life happens

Food is not just fuel—it’s the foundation for energy, mental clarity, and hormone regulation.

2. Fitness Is a Non-Negotiable

Strength training is essential for women in midlife.

“Muscle is your longevity organ,” Dr. Christine says. “More muscle means better metabolism, less fat, and more energy.”

She recommends:

  • Strength training 4 days a week
  • Minimizing excessive cardio
  • Daily walking (especially outdoors!)

Cardio alone isn’t enough—and too much can actually increase stress and fat storage. Resistance training is key for long-term vitality.

3. Mindset Is the Multiplier

Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Christine emphasized the power of mindset.

“Self-care is not selfish. It’s your responsibility—because others are watching you.”

Women often feel guilty for taking care of themselves, but the truth is, when you invest in your well-being, you become a better parent, partner, friend, and leader.

Practical Tools for Daily Self-Care

Dr. Christine also recommends:

  • Hydrating well (aim for a gallon a day!)
  • Exploring hot/cold therapies like sauna and cold plunging
  • Prioritizing sleep hygiene and a calm bedtime routine
  • Tracking nutrition and movement for accountability

And perhaps most powerful of all: role modeling wellness for the next generation. Your children and community are watching, and your choices ripple outward.

Aging Gracefully Starts Now

Menopause doesn’t have to be a crisis—it can be a catalyst. With the right knowledge, support, and mindset, you can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally through this transition.

“You are an influencer, whether you realize it or not,” Dr. Christine reminds us. “So choose to influence for good.”
